Talking to an N

Talking to an N is like trying to explain to a robot how you're feeling. They just do not get it!

One of the last conversations I ever had with xN was about lying. I'd found out he'd lied to me again about the girl in work he had the crush on (he'd said a week or two before that he wouldn't lie again and even said, "was he making a fool of himself with her?").

I was trying to explain to him that I didn't care that he'd gone out with a bunch of people from work, including her on the Sunday afternoon previously. There was no need to tell me that he'd been playing golf instead. If nothing was going on, there was no need to lie. Then he got defensive and shouted, "what's wrong with lying anyway?"

I said, "umm....they teach you in primary school when you're 5 years old why lying is wrong. Did your mum not teach that lying is wrong when you were little?"

He wouldn't have it. There wasn't anything wrong with it. He'd easily find a woman who wouldn't mind being lied to every now and then. They were all white lies of course. He never lied about anything really important.

I found myself in the strange position of trying to explain to a 34 year old man why lying was wrong. It's so obvious why it's wrong that I couldn't even articulate it and ended up sounding the crazy one.
